Protesters litter stores with excess packaging

Scotland on Sunday has reported on excess packaging activists from Friends of the Earth returning their unwanted packaging waste to the supermarkets. Jo Swinson MP backed the campaign saying:

“The public’s calls for Government action on excess packaging are getting louder and louder.

“I’m sure this weekend’s activities will leave supermarkets in no doubt about what their customers think of excess packaging.

“The Government has been too timid and too slow in tackling the packaging problem”

BBC News have also covered this story, with more of the action from Friends of the Earth Scotland.

My campaign ZeroWastePackaging (ZWP) puts the onus onto consumers. They must make every effort to limit the amount of packaging waste they accept with their purchases. Some examples (Compare related products and choose the ZWP option, where available; use local traders where fruit/veg can be unpackaged or packaged in ZWP materials: use washed plastic boxes for fish/meat). The consumer must provide the impetus for change, since superstores are unwilling.

    John.
